Transforming a shipyard
The redevelopment of the Laksevåg shipyard in Bergen is a comprehensive urban transformation project focusing on sustainability and community enhancement. By leveraging the area's historical significance dating back to 1805, the project aims to create a climate-friendly urban environment that preserves and enhances Laksevåg's unique heritage. Key elements include the establishment of a historic promenade along the fjord, revitalization of historic buildings and infrastructure, and the implementation of a car-free district with a compact parking garage. The plan prioritizes pedestrian and cyclist accessibility while offering a diverse range of housing options to accommodate different demographics. With potential for up to 1,000 new homes and various amenities such as nurseries, cultural spaces, and commercial areas, the project envisions a vibrant and sustainable community that celebrates Laksevåg's past while embracing its future.
